Presbyopia is a visual defect that makes it difficult to focus when reading or performing tasks in near vision. It is not a disease but rather the result of the natural aging of the crystalline lens, which loses its elasticity and hardens over time. This phenomenon generally affects the population over 45 years of age. In cataract surgery, if the intraocular lens power is chosen to correct far vision, presbyopia will go uncorrected and reading glasses will be needed. A multifocal intraocular lens might represent the better solution in this case.
