The cornea is the clear, circular layer of tissue that forms the front part of the eye. Corneal surgery allows keeping the cornea clear, smooth and healthy. Certain surgical procedures, such as laser refractive surgery, are not performed at the Laurentians Eye Institute (LEI) because they are non-urgent and available in the private sector.
A pterygium is a wedge-shaped fibrovascular growth of conjunctiva (the surface tissue of the white of the eye) that extends abnormally onto the cornea (the clear central part).
Surgical removal of foreign bodies
Any multitude of foreign bodies can accidently lodge themselves in the eye and cause damage.
