Injections of Botox (botulinum toxin type A) can be used to treat patients suffering from abnormal and unpleasant muscular contractions. Botox is a pharmacological substance used to paralyze muscles. It can be indicated in the treatment of blepharospasm or hemi-facial spasm. As its action is temporary, lasting approximately 4 to 6 months, regular injections are required to maintain its effect. Botox can also be used in cosmetic surgery to reduce the appearance of wrinkles caused by the contraction of the facial muscles.
